Makona , Hungary

I was given the task to design a church for a small Hungarian village where there was also a nuclear reactor. In accordance with socialist town planning theory, a whole suburb was built around the reactor. My task was to find a suitable form for the church and this was a considerable problem. After all a Catholic church in such an environment is quite an anachronism.

Nevertheless I wanted to create a space which has a positive effect on people, offering them protection -  but not on account of its ideology, not through its form or style, but through its physical reality.
