But now we live in an age where humanity must place itself again within the spiritual world, where it must advance from imitative art towards a new creation of a true art, where everything must become new.

RUDOLF STEINER
1861-1925

Rudolf Steiner studied natural sciences in Vienna and graduated in philosophy. In the years 1883 - 1895 he worked on the edition of Goethe’s scientific works. From 1902 he began to publish and lecture for the wider public, presenting the results of his spiritual scientific research about the nature of the human being, life after death and earth development. These presentations form the basis of his later anthroposophy.

Steiner’s art and architecture arose out of the need to describe the spiritual world not only conceptually but at the same time make it part of our experience through artistic working. To this end he created new and living forms of expression, both in architecture and in the visual and performing arts, wherein the principle of metamorphosis plays a central role. The most comprehensive expression of this can be found in his design of the first Goetheanum, the centre for the Anthroposophical movement.

After the first world war and on the basis of his spiritual view of the human being and the world, he developed countless new approaches in the most diverse areas of cultural life, from education to agriculture, medicine, curative education and the social sciences.
